Medicine Hat landmarks come to life in new colouring book

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Various Medicine Hat landmarks have been transformed into the pages of a colouring book for kids and adults to enjoy.

Local artist and library assistant Leanne Stock created the book.

The library approached her for design and talent.

Stock has been into the practice of urban sketching for a few years and that’s the drawing style the book takes after.

The project took her over 100 hours to create and sketch between October and November this year.

The book features thirty pages of city landmarks like the Saamis Teepee, St. Patrick’s Church, and Ewart-Duggan House.

“There are so many interesting landmarks around Medicine Hat and we wanted to try and include a little bit of everything,” Stock said. “I mean, if we tried to get every interesting thing in the city, that would be four colouring books so we just kind of aimed for a few notable buildings. We have a few of the beautiful wall art and murals in town and a few places around the library.”

Colour the Hat: A Colouring Book of Medicine Hat Landmarks is available at the library for $15.

“I really hope people enjoy it and enjoy colouring in the pages and appreciate the beauty of local Medicine Hat landmarks like I do,” Stock said.
