Lethbridge-Medicine Hat unemployment rate up at 9.6 per cent in November

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The latest unemployment numbers have been released.

For the month of November, Alberta’s jobless rate was 11.1 per cent. That’s up slightly from October’s 10.7 per cent.

For the first time in a few months, the Lethbridge-Medicine Hat economic region did not see the lowest unemployment rate, with the area’s rate at 9.6 per cent. That was a jump from October’s rate of 8.7 per cent.

Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake had the lowest rate in the province at 8.8 per cent.

Below is a breakdown of each economic region in the province, with October’s jobless rate listed in parenthesis:

  • Camrose-Drumheller: 11.4 per cent (12.6)
  • Edmonton: 10.6 per cent (11.6)
  • Calgary: 10.4 per cent (11.3)
  • Red Deer: 10.4 per cent (11.1)
  • Banff-Jasper-Rocky Mountain House and Athabasca-Grande Prairie-Peace River: 10.3 per cent (10.8)
  • Lethbridge-Medicine Hat: 9.6 per cent (8.7)
  • Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake: 8.8 per cent (9.9)

For the nation, Canada’s unemployment rate was 8.5 per cent last month, compared to 8.9 per cent in October.
