FLC offers virtual yoga and other options to stay active

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Family Leisure Centre is offering more options to stay active this winter for their pass holders.

Which includes taking classes in your own home.

FLC Fitness Coordinator Ed Stiles says physical activity has many benefits for mental and physical well being.

Virtual yoga will now be offered three times a week for members via Zoom until December 18.

There will also be more options including prerecorded sessions that will be available on the city’s Youtube channel for home workouts.

Stiles says self-led options have been posted on the pool deck and in the fitness centre for dry-land training.

He says it’s important to keep moving.

“I just want to encourage people to take this opportunity that we have to stay active to really do so. And then take advantage of Medicine Hat’s trail systems and cross country skiing in Elkwater. There’s just a lot of different things that we can do to keep active. Keep that dog walking going, don’t stop. You’re mental health and your physical well being depend on it, so keep moving Medicine Hat.”

Stiles says since March, there has been an uptick in the virtual world and believes members will take advantage of these types of options.

“Even when we reopened there are people that are more comfortable in their own homes. There’s still a risk until things change drastically in the next while.”
