Medicine Hat College to host its first virtual open house

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat College wants to get into your home to help you choose to make Medicine Hat College your new educational home.

The college will host a virtual open house on Nov. 18, offering prospective students the chance to familiarize themselves with all that MHC has to offer.

“Our main goal is to give future students of MHC an opportunity to meet faculty in the program they’re interested in, to explore the facilities and everything we have to offer them as well as to give them a chance to connect with us,” says Landon Heilman, student recruitment coordinator.

“In this virtual world it’s been a real struggle to build that sense of connection and we want to give this event or provide this event to students to help them feel connected to what their experience is going to be and what they can expect for their time with us at Medicine Hat College.”

Through a page on the college’s website people can tour the campus, get first-hand insight into programs and get an overall sense of the college experience.

“We are going to put up virtual tours, guided virtual tours on that page within the website. They’re going to be able to explore those as well as pick individual sessions that they are most interested in,” says Heilman. “If you’re interested in a particular program or maybe you’re thinking Rattlers and becoming an athlete, you can go to those individual sessions to find the exact information you are looking for.”

MHC says all of its programs will be represented throughout the event and participants will have the opportunity to speak directly with program coordinators and faculty.

A session on Coulee Collegiate will also be offered for those interested in the options available for high school upgrading, whether in-person or by distance learning.

For the sports-minded, athletes interested in joining the Rattlers athletics program will have an opportunity to engage in a Q and A session to find out more about becoming a Rattler, what the teams are doing now, and the hopes for upcoming seasons.

The open house covers the campuses in Medicine Hat and Brooks, with information and virtual tours available for each location.

You can register for the virtual open house at mhc.ab.ca/FutureStudents/OpenHouse. Once registered, participants will receive an email with details as to how to join and tips and tricks to find the sessions that suit their preferences.

Participants will also receive an application discount code, reducing the fee for applying to MHC from $75 to $40.

Heilman adds anyone unable to attend the Virtual Open House can contact him at 403-504-3569 or lheilman@mhc.ab.ca
