Not guilty plea entered on charges connected to Walsh gas station attack

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A not guilty plea has been entered but a trial date has yet to be set for the man accused of an assault against a neighbouring gas station owner earlier this year.

Anwar Kamaran, 44, is charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm in connection with allegations he attacked Geoff and David Shoesmith in August.

Kamaran, owner of the Save-On-Gas, and the Shoesmiths, who own the neighbouring Trailside Tempo station – both located in Walsh near the Alberta-Saskatchewan border – were involved in a price war in the weeks prior to the incident.

A common assault charge laid against Kamaran involving Carol Shoesmith was dropped last month at the opening of the trial on that allegation.

Kamaran’s next court appearance is set for Dec. 1 to set a trial date.
