MEDICINE HAT, AB- Alberta Health Services is saying sorry after a family member of a patient had to shovel the walkway at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital last night.

Natalie Mckinley posted about the situation on Facebook and said she was told by staff there were shovels, dirt, and salt to clean the walkway, but she would need to clean it herself.

Mckinley was at the hospital visiting a family member and needed to get her mother into the van.

Her post on Facebook garnered dozens of responses.

In a statement, Alberta Health Services issued an apology and said they are committed to providing safe quality care to patients and their families.

“We apologize to the family member of a patient who shoveled snow yesterday at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. AHS has dedicated groundskeepers who are responsible for ensuring our sites are safe for patients, visitors, and staff. This includes snow removal. Our teams were working around the clock to clear snow, but unfortunately, the wind was working against them,” Alberta Health Services said.

Alberta Health Services added they take patient and family concerns very seriously, and anyone with concerns is asked to bring them forward to the patient relations department.
