Police respond to male in emotional distress

MEDICINE HAT, AB- A man has been taken to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for further support, after police received a call about the individual being in emotional distress.

Police received the report at around 3 p.m. Saturday. When officers arrived on scene they attempted to provide crisis supports but were unsuccessful.

“The male then continued to actively cause self-harm which resulted in an officer deploying oc spray causing momentary incapacitation which lead to the officer being able to successfully separate the male from an edged weapon,” a post on the MHPS facebook page reads.

The man was taken into custody. Both the individual and the officer were uninjured from
the apprehension.
