Fire Fighters recommend car safety kit as winter approaches

MEDICINE HAT, AB – As winter approaches, Medicine Hat Fire Fighters are asking motorists to take the necessary precautions before heading out on the roads to stay safe.

Fire Fighter Dylan Gustafson says they were busy two weeks ago when we got the first taste of winter in October.

He says many of those accident factors were speed, not paying attention, or the condition of summer tires.

He reminds motorists to start thinking of the winter driving conditions, slow down, take extra time to get to your destination, and to think about getting your winter tires on.

To be ready for winter, Gustafson also reminds you to have your vehicle prepared.

“Something that we like to recommend is a winter car care kit. This includes things like emergency blankets, gloves, shovel if they need to dig themselves out. Just in case there is an emergency they’re better prepared to sit and wait for an emergency response vehicle or a tow truck,” he said.
