U.S election fever takes hold in Medicine Hat

“I don’t know if there is anything I don’t like about him. Yes he is short and he can be rude but everything that he says is the truth. If people come at him he will fight back. He is not going to sit there and take it. I just think he has done so much good for the American people,” Marshall said.

Gaby is an American living in Medicine Hat and has also lived in Arkansas, Oregon and California, alongside her husband Thomas.

“There’s alot of hate in the United States for Donald Trump. We do wear our Trump shirts out. I’ve been physically attacked in the United States. We’ve been shamed a lot if we wear these shirts to Walmart, or out. Occasionally there would be people who would verbally attack us. We have found that now that we have been back in Medicine Hat, we wear these shirts to Walmart and Superstore and we get a lot of thumbs up,” Thomas Marshall said.

For Thomas much of his support for Trump has to do with the president’s stance on Oil and Gas and the Keystone XL Pipeline.

Elsewhere in the city, support for Trump carried through.

“It’s a very contentious election. Very polarized electorate. I hope the best for both of the candidates running but I hope that Trump gets a second term,” said one man downtown.

“If Trump doesn’t get in then I don’t know. I think the U.S is pretty much pooped because Trump has done so much for our economy. If only we could have a Trump here,” said another man

But some people CHAT NEWS spoke to said they favor Joe Biden.

“He’s more reasonable. Trump is just too crazy,” said one man.

“ I hope Joe Biden gets in. I really do. Because Trump hasn’t been doing much for our world and I think Joe Biden is a good person.”

Either way, many people CHAT NEWS spoke to said their eyes will be glued to their computers and T.V screens tonight as the results come in.
