Spectator capacity limits placed on city arenas

Oct 2, 2020 | 4:25 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Spectator capacity limits are now in place at local arenas as the city reopens the facilities to the public.

So far the Cenovus Arena at the Family Leisure Centre, the Canalta Centre, the Hockey Hounds Recreation Centre and the Kinplex I have reopened and are accepting bookings from organized user groups.

Public skating has not yet resumed.

The following limits are now in effect, says the city, based on the current guidelines set forth by the Province of Alberta.

Cenovus Arena – 60; Canalta Centre – 100; Hockey Hounds – 60; Kinplex I – 100; Kinplex II – 30; Moose – 75.

The city says it is continuing to work with user groups to implement these capacity limits.

“We are keeping the health and safety of our community at the top of mind,” said James Will, general manager for the parks & recreation department. “This is taking another step towards helping prevent the spread.”

Kinplex II is scheduled to reopen on Oct. 13. The Moose Recreation Centre would be the last arena to open if demand warrants.

For more information on how the city is keeping participants and spectators safe, a Recreation Guide has been published on the its website.
