Positive ways to connect as a family from MHPSD

MEDICINE HAT, AB – With everything that has happened in 2020, the Medicine Hat Public School Division (MHPSD) says positive social and emotional connections are more important now than ever before.

The division has offered up some fun ideas to connect as a family.

District Psychologist Claire Petersen says it’s the positive connections that make us resilient to further stress.

And finding time to connect with kids and teens is very important.

Petersen suggests having a family movie night, game night, or go for a walk.

“In this time of disconnection, I think we’re all feeling a bit disconnected. The pandemic has brought that about so just finding ways to get outside, be together, and look for fun things to do together. Baking together, making up games, just making it fun, and finding ways to have those healthy moments of interaction. Because it’s that positive connection that makes us resilient. So when we have tough times we’re drawn to come together, we’re wired for connection so we want to be with people,” she said.
