Support strong for mobile blood clinic

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Canadian Blood Services mobile clinic is set up at the Medicine Hat Lodge Monday and Tuesday but an appointment to donate will be hard to come by

As of Monday afternoon, there was just one appointment slot available for Tuesday.

Southern Alberta territories manager Jhoanna DelRosario asks anyone who has an appointment but won’t attend to call and cancel so the space can be filled by someone else.

“If you do have appointments set for Tuesday please do attend and if you aren’t able to attend please call to cancel so that others can donate,” she said.

DelRosario adds someone in Canada needs blood every minute of every day. For example, she says, a leukemia patient needs eight donated units per week and a victim of a major car accident can needs up to 50 units.

The mobile clinic will return in October and appointments can be made by calling 1-888-2Donate or through the Give Blood app. Find more information at blood.ca.

In keeping with public health precautions, all donations must be by appointment. Other increased safety measures include strict physical distancing rules, mandatory masks and enhanced cleaning.
