No change in Medicine Hat numbers

Hinshaw: We cannot afford to be reckless

Dr. Deena Hinshaw reported 164 new cases of COVID-19 in Alberta on Friday, and stressed the importance of everyone staying safe this holiday weekend.

Medicine Hat’s numbers remain the same as yesterday. The city has four active cases, 65 recovered and there have been two deaths. A total of 71 cases have been recorded in Medicine Hat.

Alberta now has a total of 14,474 cases over the course of the pandemic.

The province now has 1,433 active cases, up 18 from Thursday, and 12,799 recovered cases, up 146.

Hinshaw encouraged all Albertans to have fun while making safety a priority this weekend.

“We are heading into the last long weekend of summer, and I know many people are excited to enjoy it. However, the number of cases being reported today is a clear reminder that we cannot afford to be reckless,” said Alberta’s chief medical officer of health. “COVID-19 does not take holidays and we have seen weekend barbecues and other gatherings spark outbreaks in the past.”

There are currently 47 Albertans in hospital, nine in ICU. There are 242 deaths, no change from Thursday.

The province conducted 10,709 tests in the past 24 hours.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw will provide her next update on Tuesday.

In the South Zone, there are 1,757 total cases. There are 36 active cases and 1,696 recovered. There are currently no COVID-19 cases in hospital in the South Zone and the zone remains at 25 deaths.

Cypress County has totaled 31 cases – all recovered.

The County of Forty Mile has 24 total cases, three new in Friday’s update. There are four active cases and the rest recovered.

The MD of Taber has 38 total cases — all recovered.

Special Areas No. 2 has 13 total cases, all of which are recovered.

Brooks has 1,128 total cases —1,117 are recovered and two are active. Brooks has recorded nine deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 32 cases — one active, 29 recovered and there have been two deaths.

The County of Warner has 59 total cases. Of those, 58 are recovered cases and there has been one death in the county.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 159 cases. There are 16 active cases, 141 recovered and there have been two deaths. Lethbridge County has 37 cases, seven active cases and the rest recovered.

Saskatchewan reported four new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, two in the South Zones.

Saskatchewan has a total of 1,638 cases, 36 considered active. There are 1,578 recovered cases and there have been 24 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
