Limited details can be confirmed about the COVID-19 death in Medicine Hat over the weekend that was reported by Dr. Deena Hinshaw at her update on Aug. 10.

An Alberta Health spokesperson did say the death is not connected to any continuing care facility.

There were two deaths in the South Zone reported Monday by the province’s chief medical officer of health. One was in Medicine Hat and one from the County of Newell.

“Due to patient confidentiality, we’re not releasing locations of deaths. Obviously the map does but I can’t comment on anything in the map,” says Tom McMillan. “What I can tell you is the deaths yesterday from South Zone, there was two deaths, one involved a male in his 60s and one involved in a male in the 70s.”

McMillan adds that regardless of the number of cases in any community the steps Albertans need to take remain the same.

“Wash your hands, wear a mask when you can’t physically distance, stay home when sick and get tested if you have symptoms. We’re all in this together.”
