“It will be a while before we can do anything in person for children and youth. It’s just much harder for children to appropriately participate with those kinds of limits in place.”

However, their child and youth programs will still be offered online.

“So if you are someone that’s not comfortable being out in the community a lot if you’re someone who’s immunocompromised and doesn’t want to risk something coming into your home, those services are still available. We have all our digital services and curbside pick-up learning as well,” Cross-Roen said.

Adding that the in-person programs will have very strict limits on numbers and spacing.

She says patrons are slowly coming back in and enjoy browsing for materials on the shelf.

Their computers and tables are still open by reservation.

And curbside pickup is still available.

“I think most people are just happy to have access again. We’ve had lots of positive comments, really happy to be back in the building, and be able to see staff and get their holds. I think it’s slowly been building and everything that we add sort of catches on quickly so we’re slowly just building back up to services again,” Cross-Roen said.

Renovations are also being done to the children’s library.

Thanks to a $159,000 dollar grant over two years from the Kinsmen.

Free masks from the Alberta government have also arrived at the library and can be picked up for free in a pack of eight.
