Scavenger hunt with My Place/HUG

Jul 24, 2020 | 3:25 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Parents and kids had a chance to get out and enjoy nature today with a scavenger hunt at Kin Coulee Park.

Jessica Bertelsen with My Place and Hug says it’s part of the mental health capacity building program with SD76.

Before COVID-19, their success coaches would visit the schools in the division, talk about mental health, and do fun activities.

And with school held online in the last part of the year, they continued their programming through Zoom.

Now they’re hosting summer activities for families.

Kids signed up for the scavenger hunt and collected various items outdoors this afternoon.

Bertelsen says the response today was amazing.

“I think a lot of people are looking for things to do outside of the home. A lot of people are done being at home, done being online, so face to face connection and nature is what everyone’s craving. And we know being out in nature is actually scientifically proven to benefit people’s mental health.”

Every Friday My Place and Hug is running a family activity where the community can participate.
