MEDICINE HAT, AB – The local sports calendar this summer is slim to say the least, however a big ticket event is set to tee off at the Medicine Hat Golf & Country Club on Tuesday.

Opening round action at the 2020 Alberta Men’s Amateur Golf Championships will kick off bright and early at 7:00 am with the first group of the 132 golfer field.

This tournament will feature a number of changes on and off the course due to COVID-19 regulations such as no fans walking the course, electronic score cards, and no caddies to limit physical contact.

There will be a unique local flavour to this year’s event with 11 golfers calling Medicine Hat home including Ryan Werre, Michael Valk, Mitch Kurtz, Jordon Forsythe, Lanny Seefried, Matt Taylor, Derek Whitson, and Will Wood.

A trio of juniors will be teeing off on Tuesday as well with Nolan Burzminski, Ryan Hodgins, and Sam Bratvold making the jump to the amateur level after recently competing at U-19 provincials.

CHAT Sports caught up with the trio ahead of their first round, along with Medicine Hat Golf & Country Club general manager about the path ahead of Thursday’s championship round.
