FLC gymnasium now open, participants must bring own equipment

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The gymnasium at the Family Leisure Centre opened today.

But you’ll have to bring your own equipment.

Acting Recreation Program Coordinator Rebecca Hirsch says it’s to alleviate additional touchpoints.

AHS guidelines also recommend singles play for pickleball and badminton.

And no scrimmaging for basketball, just drills.

Participants can book their gymnasium time slot online.

Hirsch says they will be offering basketball, pickleball, and badminton.

“Just so that we can space them out properly, so you’re able to come in and book a time just as you would with swimming. They’re based on one hour so you come in and bring your own equipment and you’re free to use the gym however you please. We’ve stationed them so basketball is in quadrant one, pickleball is in two and three and badminton is quadrant four just to make sure it’s spaced and we have capacity limits as well with those bookings.”

She says typically the gymnasium is a little quieter in the summer with the beautiful weather.

“But basketball drop-in is very popular. Pickleball we offer it because sometimes there are rainy days and people still want to play. So we’re hoping it’s steady throughout the summer.”

Meantime, registration for swimming lessons is July 21 and they start the week of July 27.

The FLC Fieldhouse opens on July 27.
