MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat College has the power now and will in the future.

The Alberta government announced today it is funding the total estimated cost to replace the college’s electrical substation, which is coming to the end of its service life.

The project is expected to cost $850,000 and will create five jobs in the region.

“The opportunity to update the college’s 50-year-old electrical infrastructure is welcome, said MHC president and CEO Kevin Shufflebotham in a release. “This $850,000 investment will replace our primary electrical service and substation, and replace overhead cables with underground lines. These actions will reduce maintenance costs, and increase the security and stability of our power supply to help sustain college operations for decades to come.”

Veronica Yeoman, president of the Students’ Association of Medicine Hat College, was also pleased with the announcement, saying it “opens up opportunities for Medicine Hat College to preserve and upgrade the campus by pursuing further infrastructure and maintenance projects, in turn enhancing the student experience.”
