Remain vigilant

Use caution and remember protocols as COVID still a risk, says local doc

MEDICINE HAT, AB – With the province opening up and increased opportunities for social interaction, local AHS officials are reminding Hatters to remain vigilant and remember the basics for stemming the spread of COVID-19.

Hand washing, physical distancing, staying home when sick and wearing a mask where and when appropriate should all be continued considerations in dealing with the risk of spreading the coronavirus, says South Zone medical officer of health, Dr. Shobhit Maruti.

And the reminder follows on the heels of Dr. Deena Hinshaw’s caution late last month that some of the increase in cases came due to indoor birthday parties and funerals.

“Shops are open, shopping complexes are open, people are going camping and hosting parties,” said Maruti. “It just goes to show that despite all the measures that we can take and the precautions we can take, it only takes one person to come to an event unwell and be infectious.”

Maruti added those using face coverings should especially maintain good hand hygiene due to masks that can at times become damp and the proximity to the face.

Notwithstanding safety protocols, he stressed Hatters should not forget to be empathetic towards each other and to help others when needed.
