One more COVID-19 case in Medicine Hat, 71 more province-wide

The number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Alberta has spiked and there is another new case in Medicine Hat.

According to the newest numbers on alberta.ca, 71 cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours across the province and 6,999 tests were completed.

Medicine Hat now has 41 total cases — five active and 36 recovered.

There are now 559 active cases in Alberta, a jump of 39 since the update on Sunday. An additional 32 Albertans recovered from the virus, bringing that total to 7,354.

There are 41 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, nine of which are in intensive care. The death toll remains at 154. Throughout the course of the pandemic, there have been 8,067 total cases in the province.

In Brooks, there remain two active cases. There have been 1,119 total cases in the city and 1,108 are recovered. Brooks has recorded nine deaths.

Across the South Zone there are 1,305 cases, an increase of three in the past 24 hours. From the total, 26 cases are active, 1,269 recovered and there have been 10 deaths in the zone. There are no current hospitalizations in the zone.

On May 11, the province began putting a more detailed chart online for each zone.

Cypress County is showing zero active cases and 21 recovered, while the County of Newell is showing zero active cases and 20 recovered.

The County of Forty Mile has two confirmed cases both listed as recovered.

The MD of Taber now has five active cases and two recovered.

Special Areas No. 2 has no cases on the map. There was previously one recovered case and one death attributed to the region.

The City of Lethbridge has 43 cases, eight listed as active and 35 recovered. Lethbridge County has three cases, all considered recovered.
