Arrest made in eight-month bank robbery spree through southern Alberta
The Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit has made an arrest in a string of robberies that stretch back to last summer and through six communities.
Jesse Damond Morton, 44, of Calgary is alleged to have committed seven robberies that targeted banks in southern Alberta between August 2019 and April 2020. Two of the robberies happened in Vauxhall — one at the Scotiabank in November 2019 and the other at CIBC in April.
The other robberies took place in Granum, Caroline, Trochu, Magrath and Calgary.
A search warrant was conducted at a Calgary storage locker resulted in the seizure of an SKS rifle and $2,750 in U.S. currency.
