MEDICINE HAT, AB– With summer now here, it is usually prime time for homeowners to tackle their home renovation projects and despite the pandemic, renovations appear to still be on the agenda for some.

“A lot of homeowners are spending a lot more time in their home, and they are starting to look around and see the things that they want to touch on,” said Lyle Woodward, of Strongwood construction.

“We’ve had alot of people interested in kitchens, a lot of people doing outdoor decks and that sort of thing,”

Woodward also noted that with the uncertain housing market many homeowners are using the time to invest in their own homes as opposed to buying or building new.

“The major value in the home and the thing that sells homes is kitchens and bathrooms, specifically ensuite bathrooms, and that’s sort of what we have been known for because they add so much value,” Woodward said.

Kyle Thiessen is the owner of Thiessen’s Roofing. He told CHAT News Today that while some have chosen to delay their roof renovation, they have still managed to secure some clients.

But securing clients has meant making some adjustments.

“A lot of people have been asking me to lower my rates so they can get their roofs done because everyone needs their roof done, right? So that’s what I’ve been doing,” Thiessen said.

“It helps me out and it helps a lot of other people out too because not too many people can afford it, it’s pretty expensive, so I just figure, lower it help the mout, help myself out as well,” Thiessen said.

While the pandemic is something the two businessowner’s could of never predicted, they remain optimistic the business climate will bounce back soon.
