MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Salvation Army Thrift Store is taking donations again and has partially reopened to the public.

But things will be different than the last time you donated or visited the store.

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, but only the main floor.

Donations are only being accepted at the store during certain hours and furniture is not being accepted at this time.

“Donations we’re opening between 1 and 4 and only at the back loading dock of the thrift store. At this time we’re not opening up the community donation bins throughout the community,” said Connie Dulle, director of business administration.

She asks donations not be left at the loading dock during the off-hours as they don’t always make get into the store right away and can get ruined.

Health and safety guidelines set out by Alberta Health Services will be adhered to in the store.

“We have staff that does the hand sanitizer, wiping down the carts, we have the arrows down the aisles going up and down so people know what direction to go in and then the lines at the till so there’s six feet before everybody as they wait to put their purchase through,” said Dulle.

Dulle said there was a steady stream of shoppers on the first day and people were lined up outside before the store opened.

The Salvation Army is downtown at 457 Third St. SE.
