MEDICINE HAT- Two men were taken into custody without incident this evening after the MHPS responded to a report of a possible weapons offense at Altawana Dr and Parkview Dr NE.

One of the men taken into custody was 19-years-old, and the other was under age.

A replica handgun was seized by police, according to the MHPS.

“Both subjects have since been released from custody however, MHPS can say that the public’s safety is not at risk. The investigation is on going, no further information will be released at this time and the name of both arrested subjects will not be released as no charges have been laid at this point, the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act do not authorize the release of young persons,” the MHPS said in a statement posted on Facebook.

The MHPS is reminding the public that the use of replica handguns is still an offense.

“With replica firearms so very closely resembling real firearms and the significant risk this poses to police and the public, MHPS advises that it is an offense to use an imitation firearm in any manner dangerous to the public or in the commission of an offense,” the MHPS said.
