Hockey and acting experience made Kinlee Fahselt a natural fit for The Pond

MEDICINE HAT, AB – It’s been two long years of waiting but Kinlee Fahselt is excited that everyone can soon see what life is like on The Pond.

In August 2018 Fahselt spent time in Calgary shooting a planned television show based on the world of elite-level hockey. The show is set to debut on June 29 at thepondtv.com and on YouTube.

“The show is about the lives of teenagers growing up in the culture of competitive hockey and my role is the first female hockey player on an all-boys team,” said the Medicine Hat native this week.

Fahselt was a natural fit for the role. She’s an elite goalie herself and had previous acting experience with Eagle Butte High School and Medicine Hat Musical Theatre.

She played this past season with the U18 AA Sherwood Park Fury of the Alberta Female Hockey League. She managed a 5-5-2-0 record and a 3.36 goals against average in 13 regular season games. Playoffs had just begun when the season was halted due to COVID-19.

“I’ve only been playing hockey for six years now. People were worried about me because I’m a shorter goalie and they were worried I wouldn’t be able to make it far but I’ve been doing pretty good,” said Fahselt.

She has one year left in league hockey and hopes to continue to play at post-secondary school.

Asked what she would do if she had to choose between hockey and acting, Fahselt said if she can she’d like to continue with both.

She called her time on the set of The Pond “super cool.”

“I didn’t know how behind a TV show would work and it was one the coolest experiences I’ve ever had,” she said. “I got to meet a lot of cool people and learn a lot about the film industry and how it runs.”

The Pond was to debut on June 6 but creator Matt Carson decided to postpone it due to the protests ongoing across North America.

“Due to the extraordinary circumstances, we feel it is only appropriate to delay the release of The Pond so all can stay focused on, and participate in, the immensely important dialogue taking place across the continent,” Carson wrote in a statement.
