Police issue reminders about commercial vehicle safety
MEDICINE HAT, AB – As the summer driving season begins to speed up Medicine Hat Police Service is asking motorists to pay more attention to commercial vehicles on the road.
Police are asking drivers to do their part, take precautions and share the road safely.
Drivers should be aware that commercial vehicles have large blind spots, require a wider turning radius, and take longer to stop than smaller vehicles. Always be sure to give commercial vehicles enough room on the road.
According to a release from MHPS, 58 per cent of drivers of other vehicles involved in fatal collisions and 42.8 per cent involved in injury collisions committed a driving error. The most common errors were following too closely, crossing the centre line or running a stop sign (2013-17).
