Pandemic axes Sun Devils, Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League season

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Junior lacrosse is the latest sport to be wiped off the local sporting calendar following the cancellation of the 2020 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League season.

RMLL president Duane Bratt made the decision official on Monday with a post on the league’s website outlining hopes for a delayed season that was determined to be unfeasible.

“As a consequence of these decisions from government and lacrosse governing authorities, the RMLL, in consultation with, and the agreement of all the divisions, regrettably is formally cancelling its 2020 season. While there was some hope that some type of modified schedule could be maintained for July-August, that is no longer an option.”

The cancellation extends to the RMLL’s Junior ‘B’ division, which means the Medicine Hat Sun Devils will not take to the floor this year.

Medicine Hat recorded an 8-6 record in regular season play before falling to the Sylvan Lake Yetti in the second round of playoffs last season.

There is no word yet if players set to graduate from the junior ranks will be able to continue their careers in 2021.
