MEDICINE HAT, AB – The feeling of summer is in the air, with the first day of camping today following the ease of some COVID-19 restrictions on June 1.

Manager of Wildrose Trailer Park and Campground Neil Earl says people are tired of hibernating at home and it feels great to kick off the season.

He says they are pretty booked at the moment for seasonal campers for the next month.

Adding that people are excited to get out and have a place to camp.

“We have some spots available. Most of our 30 amp full-service pull-through spots are usually always full or not too many of those available. But we have other 20 amp full-service spots available.”

Earl says their campers include locals, but most are from out of town.

“It is different, we got protocols like everyone else. We have the distancing protocols in effect so it’s a little bit different. A lot of the campers where in the past they would visit each other at their campsites so there’s not much of that going on right now. So it will definitely be different.”

He feels the cancellation of events will affect bookings somewhat, but overall they are consistently busy every year.

Meantime, Gas City Campground also opened its campsites for the season on Monday.
