REGINA – North American Helium is announcing a significant investment in a processing facility located south of Maple Creek.

The company is billing the project as the largest helium purification operation in Canada and will be located near Battle Creek, SK.

“We are fortunate to be operating in a jurisdiction with a supportive regulatory structure, favorable (sic) geology for helium production and a skilled workforce,” said company CEO Nicholas Snyder in a press release Thursday. “The government has shown a commitment to the development of this industry in Saskatchewan with will contribute new production needed to replace depleting natural gas-linked helium sources in North America.”

The company highlighted regulatory amendments in Saskatchewan as one of the reasons for the location of the facility. Those include; an expanded PST exemption for exploratory and downhole drilling activity, a 4.25 per cent royalty rate and a transferable royalty credit based on capital costs.
