Text4Hope expands to help those struggling with cancer, addictions

May 25, 2020 | 10:39 AM

A program launched to support Albertans looking for support during the COVID-19 pandemic is expanding.

Alberta Health Services introduced Text4Hope in March to reach those needing a mental boost as COVID-19 took hold in the province.

Text4Hope-Addiction Support and Text4Hope-Cancer Care will aid Albertans who are dealing with psychological issues related to addiction and cancer issues. The new services will be funded by the Mental Health Foundation.

The free service sends daily text messages of encouragement and support for three months. The messages are intended to help people ease their stress and anxiety.

To subscribe to the addiction program text “Open2Change” to 393939. To subscribe to the cancer program text “CancerCare” to 393939.

Albertans can still join the original COVID support line by texting COVID19HOPE to 393939.

The original program is funded by AHS, the Mental Health Foundation, Calgary Health Trust, University Hospital Foundation, Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation, Alberta Cancer Foundation and Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.
