MEDICINE HAT, AB – Table service is only allowed for restaurant dining to follow public health guidance from the province.
And as restaurants open, that means it includes no buffet or self-service.
That means eating out will look a little different at Buffet Medicine Hat.
Manager Jennifer Kwok says they put a lot of work in to reopen their restaurant service starting on Friday, May 22.
And they waited an extra week to reopen to double-check their protocols with AHS.
It includes a new “we serve” buffet which will have separation from the server and customers will remain seated.
“We’re going to give you a piece of paper with all the selection on it and then you get to pick what you want. So we try to implement all the buffet items that we used to have. So you pick, mark it on the paper, and the server will bring it back to another server that will actually stay in the buffet so she won’t have contact with the customer. She’ll dish it up and the server will bring it to the table.”
Kwok says staff will also be wearing masks, serving every other table, and they have met with their servers to go through the new process.
Buffet items will also be cooked in smaller quantities and menu items can still be ordered.
Kwok says Buffet Medicine Hat will be open from 11:30 am-8:30 pm for now starting tomorrow.
The buffet lunch will be served from 11:30 am-2 pm and dinner buffet from 4 pm-7:30 pm.
They will still be offering take out.
