Late start but Exhibition & Stampede farmers’ market returning next month

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The city’s farmers’ market will be returning next month after a delayed start due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.

June 13 will be the first market hosted by the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede with general manager Jim MacArthur saying there will be a number of changes including utilizing the entire Cypress Centre facility to ensure physical distancing can be maintained.

“What’s important for us is to of course put the health and safety first,” said MacArthur. “However, we do want to do our best to support small business and community groups so we’ll take a measured approach.”

MacArthur says the Cypress Centre will be utilizing its entire 40,000 square feet of floor space and have it set up in a unidirectional loop with payment points designed to maintain a two-metre distance between patrons and vendors.

Additionally, there will not be the regular concessions and washroom facilities will be limited.

While MacArthur says patrons are welcome to enjoy the market, the changes will largely facilitate those utilizing it to enter, shop and exit in an efficient manner.

Due to the nature of the setup, MacArthur highlighted that those with mobility issues should be aware the nature of the layout will require navigating the full loop.
