Medicine Hat outdoor recreation during COVID-19

May 12, 2020 | 3:14 PM

MEDIDINE HAT, AB – With direction from the province, the city of Medicine Hat announced today that organized sports and league play within the city will not be permitted.

It follows provincial guidelines on outdoor activities which include maintaining two metres of physical distance from others and restricting gatherings of more than 15 people.

Larger group bookings such as weddings and family reunions are also included.

All bookings for the city’s ball diamonds, sports fields, outdoor kitchens, shelters, and parks green spaces between now and the end of August are cancelled.

Parks Manager Scott Richter says following guidelines, parks, and trails are still open for outdoor recreation.

“We have lots of trails, that’s the best part. We encourage people to take notice of where they are. If there’s a full parking lot to avoid those areas and move on to something else. We have heritage trail map network available on our website so people can look at that and maybe gets the chance to explore different parts of the city.”

Richter says if the province lifts restrictions sooner, bookings can continue again.

Park-goers are also reminded to avoid sharing sports equipment unless individuals are from the same household.

As for camping at Gas City Campground this summer, the city confirmed today it will open on June 1, with additional restrictions and changes.
