Gas City Dog Club helps find lost pooch in Calgary

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Montana the dog has been on a journey over the last month and has quite the tale to tell.

A stop in Redcliff was just meant to be part of a trip with her owner in March.

But when passing through, the 10 month old pup went missing at the Burger King parking lot.

Montana and her owner Robert were on their way to Ontario for a medical appointment when they were passing through town.

The Gas City Dog Club was instrumental in helping Montana find her owner with social media posts.

“She’ll go to anybody that’s friendly with her. That’s her biggest problem so I keep her on a leash until I get her inside a fenced area and then we’re fine,” said head instructor Sterling Hinch.

Graham Pahl and his mom Susan played a big part in finding the lost pooch.

The search went on with some twists and turns.

And in April, they received a tip that Montana had been found in Calgary.

Gas City Dog Club Member Graham Pahl says, “She somehow escaped from whoever took her. The only person that is going to know how she got to Calgary is Montana, so we really don’t know.

After two trips to the city, Montana was able to get back to Medicine Hat and is now boarding with the local dog club until she can reunite with her owner.

“One of the identifying factors that we were able to prove that it was her is that she has 4 or 5 black spots on her tongue,” Pahl said.

She has been micro-chipped and is now staying with the club’s head instructor Sterling Hinch.

And he’s been in contact with Montana’s owner Robert while he waits for surgery in Ontario- which has been on hold due to the pandemic.

Hinch sends pictures and talk over the phone with updates on his pet.

“The one time she was laying on my lap and I was talking to Robert and I put the phone on speakerphone and I had him talking. Well her head come right up, her ears perked up and she looked right at the phone.”

Montana will be enjoying life in the gas city until she can be in her owner’s arms again.
