COVID-19 assessment centre to return to Brooks

May 9, 2020 | 4:56 PM

BROOKS, AB-An assessment centre that saw over 3600 people get tested for COVID-19, over a three day period will be making a return to Brooks.

Mayor Barry Morishita made the announcement Saturday during his Facebook Live address.

The temporary assessment centre will operate on Tuesday May 12 to Thursday May 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at #4 Gun Club Road, north of the city.

Similar to the first site, the centre is for those who are asymptomatic and don’t display any COVID-19 symptoms such as a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.

Those who have tested positive but have since recovered are also asked not to get tested at the site.

“The test is apparently really sensitive and what can happen is you can have old, dead virus cells still in your system and it can mark you as a positive so you would have to start mandatory isolation,” Morishita explained.

Testing results will be delivered by phone.

The city is advising people to provide the proper phone number so that AHS can correctly deliver the results once testing is complete.

“People need to make sure they use a different phone number for each person being swabbed, and to make sure that your voicemail can take messages,” Morishita advised.

A total of 3,653 people were tested at the first asymptomatic testing site which took place on April 27-29.
