Virtual edition of 7th annual Move for Mental Health

May 8, 2020 | 11:31 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The 7 annual Move for Mental Health fun run/walk and funfest looks a little different this year.

But you can still get some fresh air with the virtual edition of the event.

It was scheduled for last weekend, but due to public health restrictions, the event shifted online as part of mental health week between May 2-10.

Program Coordinator for Community Coming Together Patti Wagman says as of Friday morning 459 people signed up all over the world.

Including people in Australia, the U.K, Ireland, the U.S, Saskatchewan, B.C, and of course Alberta.

She says it was an eyeopener that online registration would be so popular.

Wagman feels virtual sign-ups will be part of the event moving forward to help open conversations about mental health.

“I think this pandemic has really showcased how much we need to really focus and concentrate on the things that are about self-care and relieving the stress. For some people, that’s a walk and some it’s other things but I think to just really be contentious about what we’re doing to manage our mental health while during this time.”

Move for Mental Health is completely free and you can sign up by visiting this link.

You can do an activity and distance of your choice to take part while physical distancing.

Wagman encourages participants to wear the colour green and use the #move4MH2020 on social media platforms.

Everyone registered from Medicine Hat and surrounding area will be entered to win prizes.
