Medicine Hat Symphonic Society accepting donations

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Symphonic Society is one of many organizations that has had to cancel events due to COVID-19.

Their annual musical theatre showcase and fundraiser “Tomorrow’s Broadway Today” was cancelled in March.

Which normally brings in $10-thousand dollars a year for the society.

The Youth Orchestra year-end concert and 41st Concerto Showcase this spring were also cancelled.

In addition, their other fundraising activities like bingos and casinos have been affected; reducing revenue significantly.

Society President Cameron Clark says they’re not sure financially what the end of the year will look like.

He says there’s not an immediate cash crunch because they have a reserve, but they’re looking ahead.

“But over the course of the coming year, we may not be able to sponsor as many things as we’ve had up to now. So that’s why we’re asking for the public’s help in either donating directly to the symphonic society general funds so we can keep up with all of those activities, the orchestras, the masterclasses that we sponsor, the concerto competition, and then bringing in guest artists.”
