MEDICINE HAT, AB – A loaded handgun was seized during a planned vehicle stop on a group suspected of supplying drugs to southeastern Alberta.

ALERT’s Medicine Hat organized crime team led the stop in Bassano on May 1, which was aided by members of the Medicine Hat Police Service, Bassano RCMP and Calgary Police Service.

“Taking a firearm out of the hands of a suspected drug dealer only serves to enhance public safety,” said Insp. Sean Boser, ALERT Regional teams.

During the stop police also seized 235 grams of methamphetamine, 78 grams of fentanyl and nine grams of cocaine were also seized during the stop. The total value of the drugs is estimated at $35,000. Police also found $800 in cash.

Robert Jones, 53, faces firearms, drug and breach charges, says ALERT.

Deborah McIntosh, 52, and Gerald Wright, 42, are both facing drug charges.

All three are from Calgary.
