Work on First Street SW set to wrap up this summer

Apr 29, 2020 | 2:12 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The final phase of a city infrastructure project that has stretched through parts of three years should soon come to an end.

Work on the First Street SW Infrastructure Renewal Project will resume Monday. Crews will be installing a guard rail, the sidewalk, pathway and electrical conduit, and finishing the top life asphalt and landscaping.

The work in the 100 and 200 blocks of First Street SW is expected to be completed by the end of June, depending on the weather.

Beginning on May 4, the street will be closed from Second Avenue to Chinook Drive.

The project started in 2018, when several city departments – including electric distribution, environmental utilities and municipal works – began the work stretching from Division Avenue to Chinook Drive.

The city reminds people to allow crews space to work safely, including adhering to physical distancing standards of two metres, and asks residents to follow all traffic signs and detours related to the work.
