YMCA Employment Centre supports during COVID-19

Apr 28, 2020 | 3:13 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB -COVID-19 has unfortunately left many individuals without work.

And the Medicine Hat YMCA Employment Centre has been continuing its services to help during this time.

They’re doing so remotely by email and phone.

Manager Jodie Engbert says they help with resume and cover letter writing, job search assistance, and skill identification.

She says right now and once restrictions are lifted, they’re here to support people getting employment ready

Adding, there are fewer job opportunities available right now but they are out there.

“Right now a lot of it is going to be within the grocery stores. The ones that are part of the essential services so a lot within healthcare so obviously qualifications become an issue with those but greenhouses are still hiring some general labour positions. We do some job placements so we can assist in securing employment for individuals and those are where we’ve had the most successes over the last month.”

Engbert says they’re seeing varying age groups use the centre.

She adds it’s going to be a competitive labour market once COVID-19 restrictions start to be lifted.

The YMCA Employment Centre offers its services in Medicine Hat and Brooks.
