Fire advisory

Forty Mile says high risk of fire in county

Apr 24, 2020 | 10:05 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The County of Forty Mile has issued a fire advisory for the rural municipality, warning dry, windy and warm conditions present a very high risk of burning.

The advisory issued Friday states the risk of a fire spreading quickly is due to the amount of dead and dry grass in the area which may require the county to issue a fire restriction or ban with little to no notice if weather elevates the risk further.

The county is currently advising extreme caution and that only permitted burning take place, that those fires are closely monitored continuously and they should be extinguished immediately should the wind speed exceed 15 kilometres per hour.

Cypress County has had a fire restriction in place since March 1 with all fire permits cancelled.
