Stampede cancels 2020 Queen competition
MEDICINE HAT, AB – The reigns of Medicine Hat Stampede Queen Rayelle Smith and Princess Dionne Freimark have been extended for one year.
The Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede Queen Committee says it has decided against holding the annual Queen competition this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Conducting a Queen competition requires significant planning and preparations, the committee feels it would not be consistent with Alberta Health’s instructions to stay home if we continued with the events surrounding the competition,” reads a release.
In light of most of the events the current royalty would have attended this spring and summer being postponed or cancelled the committee has extended the reigns so Smith and Freimark can get the full experience.
