COVID 19: 241 new cases in the province, Brooks sees spike

EDMONTON AB – The latest COVID -19 numbers released by the province show 241 new cases of the virus detected over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 2,803.

The province says 488 cases are suspected to have resulted from community spread. In terms of hospitalizations, 65 people are in hospital with 16 admitted to ICU.

In terms of recoveries, a total of 1,198 are classified as recovered.

In the South zone there are 142 cases.

In Medicine Hat, numbers remain unchanged from Saturday at 15 confirmed cases. Six are considered active and nine are listed as recovered.

The City of Brooks, however, saw a sharp spike in their numbers with 62 new cases over 24 hours, bringing their total number of cases to 102. All of the cases are deemed active, according to the province.

Yesterday, the city reported a total of 40 COVID-19 cases.

Cypress County gained two additional cases, and now have eight active cases in their jurisdiction.

Elsewhere in the province there are 1,197 cases in the Calgary zone, 429 in Edmonton zone, 137 in North zone, 76 in the central zone and 22 cases that are yet to be confirmed.

There have been 97,180 people tested for COVID-19 and a total of 101,323 tests performed by the lab. In the last 24 hours, 4,426 tests have been completed.
