MEDICINE HAT AB- With beauty salons ordered to close, a person’s hair and nails are undoubtably bound to get a little shaggy. But some stylists are reaching out to their clients amid COVID-19 to equip them with the tools needed to make sure that they still look and feel beautiful in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic.

At Plush Salon and Spa, they have taken to delivery to ensure that their clients have what they need to maintain their beauty regime.

To touch up those pesky roots, the salon has a customizable fix for their clients.

“We are delivering them colour kits. So we are actually delivering them the colour to do their root touch ups as well as toners to get rid of the brassy blondes. These are just super simple applications that the clients can be doing on their own. Nobody is getting lightener, it’s just very easy, simple things they can do to make themselves feel good.” Jenna Engel, owner of Plush Salon and Spa said.

Salon staff also regularly post videos on their Facebook page, providing various tips like how to properly blow dry hair, and how to go from flat hair to curly, using only a blow dryer and a little bit of product.

To snip or not to snip?

As time goes on, temptation may exist to trim those unruly locks. Social media has already been flooded with posts of people taking to the scissors to cut their long strands.

But to avoid a possible hair disaster, Engel advises to put those scissors down if you can.

“I would never recommend it no, but I know people are probably going to do it because your hair is starting to get longer and in your eyes,” she said.

If strands do start getting into the eyes, Engel provides step-by-step instructions on how to trim the bangs under these unprecedented circumstances.

She also advises people to shy away from drugstore home hair coloring kits as mush possible.

“If you can get it from a professional hair stylist who is going to give you the correct colour as well as the directions as to how to use it . We are never going to set you up for failure,” she said.

So what can you do to improve your beauty regime?

Engel says now is the perfect time for everyone to take care of their hair, skin and nails..

“I actually think this is a fabulous time for everyone with damaged hair to make it healthy. This is a good time to be deep conditioning, using scrunchies, don’t use any heat on the hair. Nobody needs to leave the house..so it is actually a great time to be taking care of your hair and skin,” she said.
