Shoppers can direct message the team to get more details on items and make arrangements for pickup.

Oishi says with more people at home, some are buying items for home renovation projects.

“We have lots of people who are still working who now need to suddenly set up a home office or they need to set up a work station for their children. So we’re getting lots of inquiries about desks, chairs. Different gardening equipment as we head into the nice spring weather.”

As for current habitat home builds, they’ve had to close all of their construction sites right now.

But they are preparing for a build that will happen in Medicine Hat in the future.

Oishi says they are taking applications throughout southern Alberta.

Adding, their fundraising has slowed down, but this situation has really drawn in the focus of what Habitat does.

“If you imagine a family that is now needing to be at home and if they were in housing that’s unstable, unsafe, expensive, overcrowded, you can just see how much more difficult this would be.”

This is their 30th anniversary year and Oishi says they helped about 300 families in southern Alberta.

“It makes us very happy to know that those 300 families are in excellent, safe, and affordable housing as they weather this pandemic.”
