One taken to hospital after mental health incident at police station
MEDICINE HAT, AB – One person was taken to hospital for a mental health assessment this morning after an incident at the Medicine Hat police station.
Police say just after 7 a.m. the male came to the front counter, was in obvious distress and advised police that he was going to kill himself, brandishing a small hunting knife. Several officers confronted the male and after a short negotiation he surrendered himself to police.
The male was taken into custody and transported to Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for assessment. There were no injuries.
Police remind the public that mental health professionals are still available during the COVID-19 pandemic, and if required the appropriate organizations should be contacted.
