Donations roll in for food bank in time of need

Apr 6, 2020 | 5:55 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB -The Medicine Hat & District Food Bank received two generous donations today.

Lions Club of Medicine Hat donated $25-thousand.

Acting president James Higgins says the food bank is overwhelmed right now and the Lions Club wanted to give back to the community.

“They’re getting such demand, all the people who are out of work they temporarily lost their jobs. Everybody needs a little help and the food bank is doing a spectacular job,” Higgins said.

Food bank executive director Celina Symmonds told Chat News that thank goodness there are clubs who are willing to step up to help.

“We are so very grateful. Our local Lions Club has always done so much to support the food bank and supported us through the years.”

She says a local accounting firm EBT Chartered Professional Accountants also donated a substantial amount of money to the food bank.

“They all got together and they all came up with a $60-thousand donation as well for the food bank so we’re very grateful. We’ve always found that when we’re in need our community steps up and here we are again. We’re in need and our community is here for that.”

Symmonds thanks everyone who reached out and donated to the food bank.
