MEDICINE HAT, AB – As local businesses deal with a multitude of issues stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Medicine Hat College is offering free online courses to help organizations deal with risk management issues in the workplace.

Wes Paterson, corporate training officer with the college, recognizes the amount of information businesses are trying to process in light of the pandemic is staggering, but says the course is designed to be done quickly – within 30 minutes – and provides critical information for employers.

“Organizations need a plan,” said Paterson. “Especially those ones that are still running essential services. This course is a complement to that.”

The Action Plan for the Workplace course discusses a range of topics, from how employers communicate with staff to how to protect staff from the virus and how and when to enact policies which will support continued business operations.

“At least having some sort of policy and framework is the critical part and this course is just a nice complement, something employers can send out to their managers to give them a quick overview,” said Paterson.

A second free course, COVID-19: What Employees Need to Know, is also available for businesses to provide a quick explainer – 20 minutes – to staff as to what they should be aware of during the pandemic.

Both courses provide certificates of completion upon satisfactory completion and are available free on the Medicine Hat College website until the end of April.
