MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat Public School Division superintendent Mark Davidson appears to be heading stateside for a new position in Washington State.

Over the weekend, the Richland School District announced they have hired Davidson to become their new superintendent located in the southern part of the state.

According to the district, Davidson was formally hired during a special meeting of the school board on Saturday and will begin his new role later this summer.

In a statement, Davidson said he’s looking forward to the new challenge south of the border.

“I am really excited to begin a new adventure and a new phase in my career, and my family is excited to be a part of such a great community,” said Davidson. “I became an educator because my own teachers were such a transformative force in my life. I am eager to work with everyone to make that same impact on students in Richland.”

Davidson became superintendent and CEO of MHPSD in 2016 following stints as a middle school teacher, vice-principal, and school administrator.

Richland School Board president Rick Jansons said in the same release that Davidson will be a welcomed addition to the district.

“Mark’s deep experience as an educator, his record of problem-solving and collaboration and his compassion for all kids will make him an excellent leader for our schools,” said Jansons. “We are eager for him to join our community and lead our district.”

CHAT News reached out to the MHPSD for comment, however were informed that Davidson has not resigned his position with the division and no public announcement had been made.
